Sep 3, 2016: A one day seminar was held at “Institute of Engineering and Management” in Kolkata, where WILAT was also given a platform to speak to the students. This helped to encourage female students to take up logistics as a career option.

Feb 1, 2017: a seminar was arranged at The Entrepreneurship School, Gurgoan on “Opportunities for Women.” The Sessions included speakers drawn from Entrepreneurs, HR professionals, Trainers and educators in the field of Logistics. It was decided to start a mentorship program whereby the women heading various departments in Logistics Industry would hand hold and guide students to make a foray into the logistics sector. A large number of students from management schools attended the program

As the scope and operations of WILAT is increasing it was decided to confer the position of Vice Chairman WILAT to Mrs P.Allirani , Director CONCOR (Container Corporation of India)

A membership drive has also been launched to encourage women working in different sectors like railways , Road transport aviation, logistics & transport companies , shipping agents, academicians, some entrepreneurs as well as students to share a common platform

  3 day training program was organized by CILT-India at its premises in Vasant Vihar on the Indian Railways – Freight Operating Information System from 8th – 10th Feb 2017. The participants were from various organizations like, DARCL Logistics Ltd., Mormugao Port Trust, Ultratech Cement Ltd., Kribhco Infrastructure Limited, India Infrastructure & Logistics Pvt Ltd.

A site visit was also arranged during the training programme for the participants to CRIS – Centre for Railway Information System at Chanakyapuri to provide the real feel of the operations and working of FOIS.

The Women Wing of CILT-India – WILAT – Women in Logistics & Transport had a get together to celebrate its Founding Day on Thursday 17th June 2016. The event was well attended Dr. Vinay Maitri guest of honour from the School of Planning & Architecture gave a very thought provoking speech and asked the WILAT members to work on women issues relevant to India like Swachach Bharat – identifying locations & proper functioning of toilets for women in the Delhi metro require. The idea was well appreciated and the representatives from Empower School of Health Ms. Madhurima Mukherjee and Ms Divya showed keen interest in working on such a project Under the guidance of the Chairperson, Mrs Ragini Yechuri, this project well be soon implemented .

Life membership certificate was given to Mrs. Suman Chopra, a new life member of CILT-India.

The meeting was also attended by Dr. Veni Mathur, Vice Chairperson (Education) and Mrs. Ambika jain from Northen Railways. The discussion was followed by Lunch.

A two day conference was organized by CILT-INDIA in collaboration with Infinity Exhibition & conference Pvt. ltd on the 19th and 20th May 2016 at the Bombay Exhibition Centre Goregoan, Mumbai, on “India Multimodal Logistics Summit-2016” enabling the “Make in India” concept. The conference was inaugurated by Addition Member Traffic, Shri A.K.Gupta , Railway Board and Mr. Shanti Narain, Chairman CILT-INDIA.

A Large number of delegates had the opportunity to listen to stalwarts from the industry on various topics relating to multimodal transport during the different sessions and discuss issues on one to one basis. The different sessions during the two days were:

Youth Professional Forum CILT India in association with Jindal Global Business School (Part of O.P. Jindal Global University) conducted a workshop on “Last Mile Logistics in India” on Saturday 30th April 2016 at Sonipat Campus. This workshop was supported by Million Minds, Million Riders and CYM.

Workshop was focused on last mile logistics status and opportunities in India with objective of enabling students to be the part of Logistics world.

Workshop was inaugurated under gracious presence of Dr. C. Gopinath Deen Jindal Global business School & Dr.Saroj Koul Assistant Deen Research, Executive Director Centre for Supply chain & Logistics Management.

Workshop covered the topic by two student presentations namely Mr. Ashwathej & Mr. Sourabh. Thirty minute presentation was appreciated by the board members.

From the Industry side session were taken by Mr. Amit Shankhdhar - Secretary General CILT India, Mr. Shankhya S Mookherji - Million Riders, Mr. Vivek Saxena - North India Business Head CL & D in UTi

Mr Amit Shankhdhar, Secretary General CILT India elaborated on last mile delivery concept which emerged in nineties as courier and how this industry faced the challenges during nineties and 2010 onwards. During nineties it was majorly documents which converted into parcels and moreover it converted from unorganized to organized, manual to automate. He highlighted the impact of non- aligning practices of conventional courier companies which resulted in creating the scope of new last mile delivery companies specific to E Com business. Comparison between conventional and captive delivery arm of e commerce companies is explained to the audience in detail. He highlighted the importance of managing change w.r.t market demand and future orientation. He has given the overview on current scenario and how the delivery mechanism can take shape in another three to five year. He also emphasized on innovative solutions to solve the last mile logistics concerns in spite of following the prevailing practices as due to change in scenario what was extremely successful in past may not have same success in future so innovation is the key. He invited students for research in logistics and assured the full support from his side including CILT, Million Minds & CYM.

Mr.Shankhya S Mookherji has taken the session on YPF CILT. He explained the current activities and specially the benefits to the students & professionals after being the member of CILT. He has given the presentation on innovative solution i.e. million riders as how it is emerging as single window solution for all last mile logistics requirements. He has also explained the imbalances of the requirements i.e. peak time or peak session and due to this industry is not able to manage manpower. Million Riders has offered a unique flexible solution for this industry where an individual as well as a company can find its solution for last mile delivery with the help of Million Riders, it provide ready solutions for manpower for last mile deliveries. is a portal for facilitating Bikers as well as customers to get required jobs as per rider’s preference and also customers to get riders according to their preferred time and location. Million Riders is bridging the gap between Riders and Customers with its technology and operational knowhow. Million Riders has given the solution on this by creating a app for delivery boys in which a student or any biker can easily earn by local delivery as per his convenience time slot and user can also use the services by just one click on the specific time.

Mr. Vivek Saxena presented the overview on Logistics industry in India. He highlighted the key aspects, sub segmentation of the services within the industry, sub segment wise industry size, growth rates, co relation between the current scenario and boosting demand of highly integrated, organized & automated future. He forecasted the future of logistics in India with the help of specific data. He presented the career opportunity matrix in the logistics sector. He also explained the future of Logistics after GST. He presented a matrix showing the percentage of logistics cost in e commerce business. He briefed about the job opportunity for different streams of students in logistics. He has also given top twenty global 3PL players comparison in turn overs and their working in India.

Dr Saroj Koul highlighted the interest of the students in logistics research and briefed about the working on this. Published reports by various international organizations were also highlighted and emphasized were given to be more specific & meaning full in Indian scenario.

The Workshop was attended by students, research scholars, facality and academicians.

The overall feedback of the workshop was extremely good and more such initiatives were requested by the audience.

  Keith Newton Comes to India  

The Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport – CILT INTERNATIONAL Secretary General Mr. Keith Newton was on a 5 day visit to India; arriving in New Delhi on the 9th of November 2015, moving to Cochin, Bengaluru and finally to Chennai.

The two days spent in Delhi were marked by fruitful discussions on the WAY FORWARD in terms of Education & Training.

On the 9th morning, Keith met with the Management Committee members at the CILT India Headquarters at Niryat Bhavan. The CILT India Chairman, Mr. Shanti Narain and the Education sub-committee consisting of Dr. Veni Mathur, Dr. P.K.Goel and Dr. Vinay Maitri apprised the visiting secretary general about the trainings and accreditation processes being carried out in India while the WILAT head, Mrs. Ragini Yechury explained how she is motivating the women members to come forward in a big way. The Treasurer, Mr. Vinod Asthana gave a brief on the resources of CILT India being used for member benefits.

On the 10th November 2015, a general body meeting was organized including National Council members, Corporate members, Accredited institutions and all young and dynamic members. Keith made apresentation on the activities of CILT Worldwide, quoting some success stories like Malaysia, China, Hong Kong, UK and Australia. This was followed by a meeting of the minds on how to enhance the visibility and usefulness of CILT in India in terms of Skill development. The discussion continued into lunch as well. CILT is an international platform for networking and training, comprising of countries in Europe, Asia, Africa, Auatralia, Canada and USA.

The first meeting of the women’s wing of CILT India – WiLAT (Women in Logistics and Transport) was held after the formal launch of the new National Committee. This wing is headed by Mrs. Ragini Yechury, Executive Director, Railway Board, and New Delhi. Some of important decisions taken included:

• To improve the visibility more meetings, seminars and conferences will be organized

• An effort would be made to have an understanding with some larger body such as UIC, FIA Foundation and the UN agencies in this area.

• Need was felt to increase the membership by involving women from all spheres of Logistics and Transport business.

• WiLAT will work hand in hand with the Education sub-committee to identify new avenues for Training

The meeting was attended by Mrs. Ragini Yechury (Head WiLAT), Mrs. Rashmi Chaudhary (Rail Bhavan), Mrs Lily Pandya (Railway Board), Mrs. Suman Chopra (Journalist), Dr. Veni Mathur(Educationist), Mrs. Usha Maurya (Service), Mr. Vinod Asthana (Treasurer CILT India) and Mr. Shanti Narain (Chairman, CILT India). However, Mrs Divya Jain (MD, Safeducate) and Miss Hena Kausar (DGM, Maruti Training School) could not attend due to unavoidable circumstances.
